SEPANG, (SIC) - AirAsia-SIC-Ajo's Malaysian rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin created history when he achieved his best ever position in the world championships, finishing sixth at the Grand Prix of Qatar at the opening round of the Moto3 season last night.

It was a magnificent performance from Fahmi who started the race in seventh, and even was third at one stage of the 18 laps race before crossing the finishing line in sixth, 19,052s behind winner, Spaniard Maverick Vinales (38.40,995).

Fahmi bettered his previous best ever performance last year when he finished seventh at the Malaysian GP and in doing so achieved a remarkable milestone for the Malaysia at the world championships.

Still only 20, Fahmi's sixth place is the best ever position achieved by a Malaysian at the MotoGP and by qualifying in seventh, recorded his best ever position in his career so far.

"My team once again did a great job. The bike worked fine and this GP proved that during this season I have all the possibilities to fight for the first podium position of my career," said a delighted Fahmi.

Team leader Aki Ajo was proud of Fahmi's performance during the whole weekend.

"I am proud and happy for Fahmi. He had a great race today but even more I appreciate his effort during the whole weekend. Fahmi started strongly and as usual was able to improve his work all the time," said Ajo.

Fahmi will be hoping to continue his performance at the next GP, three weeks later at the Jerez circuit in Spain.
