KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Malaysia have taken a huge fall from grace after losing to Germany 3-2 in the Sudirman Cup, ending the host's campaign prematurely in the group stages.

With everything at stake in the final Group 1C match against the Germans, Malaysia failed to live up to expectations at the Putra Indoor Stadium, losing the mixed doubles, women's singles and women's doubles matches.

It is a embarrassing performance from the national team as they will now end their 2013 Sudirman Cup campaign with two defeats and zero victories.

Since 2009, Malaysia have never finished below the top eight. In the 2007 edition, Malaysia finished sixth.

The match against Germany means everything to Malaysia and its fans, but it could not have started in a worse fashion

Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying are ranked seven places ahead of Michael Fuchs-Birgit Michels, but it counted for nothing as the Germans' relentless pressure cracked the Malaysians' defence time after time.

With mistakes bogging them down in the third set, Peng Soon-Liu Ying had to walk out with a 21-17, 18-21, 21-17 defeat in the opening mixed doubles match.

After 68 minutes of agony for the fans, Lee Chong Wei restored the cheers in half the time after sending Dieter Domke packing 21-18, 21-18.

While it was a routine win for Chong Wei, Domke proved to be a tough nut to crack as he almost forced the World No 1 to dance for three sets. But Chong Wei was having none of that, pulling out all the stops in the second set to wrap up the win for a 1-1 result.

Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah are on the men's doubles spotlight against Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler instead of Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong, and the youngsters certainly did not disappoint.

Despite constant disturbances which include Kindervater taking a little too much time to get ready on the receive and a dubious argument which led to one rally being replayed, V Shem-Khim Wah were able to secure a very important point for Malaysia with a 21-16, 23-21 victory over the World No 16 German pair.

Needing only one more win, Tee Jing Yi squandered Malaysia's advantage after failing to secure a win in the women's singles, going down 21-12, 21-14 to Olga Konon who is ranked 22 places below the Malaysian.

The women's doubles will now shoulder a heavy responsibility - again.

But a poor start from Vivian Hoo Kah Mun and Woon Khe Wei gave Germany the first set advantage.

A scramble ensued as Vivian-Khe Wei regained ground by claiming the second set, but they squandered a 8-5 lead in the decider to allow Birgit Michels and Johanna Golsizewski to level it at 12-all before sending hosts Malaysia crashing out of the tournament 21-16, 16-21, 21-18.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297356</NewsId>
SC13: Japan sink fighting Danes

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/MisakiAyaka210513_L.jpg</big_image>

Japan emerged as Group 1D winners after sinking Denmark 3-2 in the Sudirman Cup at the Putra Indoor Stadium.
<fullArticle>
By: Kevin George

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Japan emerged as Group 1D winners after sinking Denmark 3-2 in the Sudirman Cup at the Putra Indoor Stadium.

The East vs West encounter was arguably the most intense match so far in this tournament despite both teams having already qualified for the quarter-finals.

But there can only be one winner - in this case it is the Land of the Rising Sun who prevailed to the end.

The mixed doubles match started the ball rolling with Joachim Fischer Nielsen and Christinna Pedersen drawing first blood for the Danes with a comeback from a first-set defeat to beat Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Miyuki Maeda 17-21, 21-15, 21-18.

Jan O Jorgensen and Kenichi Tago treated the fans to a stunning display of a three-setter filled with thrills and suspense for 76 minutes before Kenichi edged the Danish shuttler 13-21, 21-19, 27-25, resulting in Jorgensen burying his face in his hands with disappointment

It was a top four encounter in the men's doubles match with World No 1 Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen accepting a challenge from World No 4 Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa.

Although it was Boe-Mogensen who eventually won 21-12, 16-21, 21-16, it was by no means an easy feat to help Denmark regain the lead 2-1.

Sayaka Takahashi made it 2-2 soon after with a 21-18, 21-15 win in the women's singles, beating Line Kjaersfeldt while placing the fate of the tie in the women's doubles match.

Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi, who have risen to the World No 2 ranking after six years as partners, stepped up to the plate to produce a stellar performance against World No 3 Christinna Pedersen-Kamilla Rytter Juhl, securing Japan's win with a 22-20, 21-16 victory.

Head coach Park Joo-bong is satisfied with his charges' performance, but is quick to shift his focus to the quarter-finals.

"Now that we have cleared the group stages, we will put all our efforts in the quarter-finals as we have never gone past that point."
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297327</NewsId>
SC13: Yongbo: Any team will do

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/Yongbo210513_L.jpg</big_image>

Li Yongbo said he is not concerned about China's potential quarter-final opponent in the Sudirman Cup, adding that "any team will do" for the defending champions.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Li Yongbo said he is not concerned about China's potential quarter-final opponent in the Sudirman Cup, adding that "any team will do" for the defending champions.

The draw of the quarter-finals will be drawn after the conclusion of the group stages on 21 May.

When queried on whether China have a preference in their opponent for the quarter-final, China's head coach Yongbo confidently stated that he does not care who they face, indicating that they will beat any opponent thrown at them.

"I am not concerned and I do not care who we face. Any team will do for us.

"Regardless of who the opponent will be, it will not be a problem for us," said Yongbo confidently.

So far Yongbo's team has backed up their words with pure supremacy on the courts, beating India and Indonesia 5-0 respectively despite experiencing slight stutters here and there.

On the win over Indonesia, Yongbo said: "We played pretty well, considering that some players are playing their first match today.

"I think both teams are a little relaxed since both China and Indonesia have qualified.

"Cai Yun and Haifeng did okay, and Li Xuerui was nervous given that this is her first Sudirman Cup outing. But she did well to play her normal game in the second set.

"There is nothing to say about Chen Long, he is just a solid player, and I am happy with our win today."
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297326</NewsId>
SC13: Dragons roar, Garudas fall

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/ChenLong210513_L.jpg</big_image>

The titanic clash between China and Indonesia in the Sudirman Cup saw the Dragons emerging as Group 1A champions after a 5-0 win over the Garudas.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - The titanic clash between China and Indonesia in the Sudirman Cup saw the Dragons emerging as Group 1A champions after a 5-0 win over the Garudas.

Li Yongbo's lineup made sure that his prediction of a 5-0 victory will come true at the Putra Indoor Stadium, as Indonesia have to be content with second place.

While the result of the match did little to change the fact that both teams have already qualified for the quarter-finals, pride was at stake here for both sides. But for Indonesia, it seems they are on the recieving end after China's lineup overpowered theirs one tie after another.

Both teams exchanged light jabs prior to the encounter, predicting that they will demolish the opposition 5-0 to top the group.

China deployed their largest cannons and biggest guns in badminton, but that did not faze the Indonesian camp - initially.

Hendra Setiawan-Angga Pratama were even more fired up, taking the first set against World No 9 Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng in the men's doubles tie.

However, the Chinese duo found their competitive feeling back in the second set to snatch the first point with a 16-21, 21-15, 21-15 result in 45 minutes of play.

Women's singles shuttler Li Xuerui continued the slow start trend of China, allowing Aprilia Yuswandari to claim the first set before dominating the remaining two for a 13-21, 21-4, 21-11 win.

Another solid performance from Chen Long in the men's singles sealed the deal for China, after the World No 2 made short work of Tommy Sugiarto 21-17, 21-11. Women's doubles World No 1 pair Wang Xiaoli-Yu Yang continued the march with a 21-10, 21-13 win over Greysia Polii-Nitya Krishinda Maheswari.

Mixed doubles pair Xu Chen-Ma Jin completed Li Yongbo's 5-0 win prediction after crushing Muhammad Rijal-Debby Susanto 21-13, 21-7.

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - If there is a time to step up and be counted, it will be the Malaysia vs Germany match in the Sudirman Cup.

A defeat to Taiwan means that Malaysia will have to beat the Germans in order to secure their place in the quarter-finals. Failure to do so will result in what German shuttler Michael Fuchs said: "If they (Malaysia) lose, they will have their heads chopped off."

His statement just hits the spot, it is the reality of the situation.

With home ground advantage, superior players in more than two categories, there is no reason why Malaysia should not advance. But then again, we should not have lost against Taiwan either.

Nevertheless, what's done is done, and we will have to look towards the match against Germany. Malaysia must utilise every opportunity and strike at every weakness the opponents' show - there is no room for mercy here.

Match-by-match analysis

Men's doubles (Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah vs Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler)

Germany's Ingo Kindervater-Johannes Schoettler is highly prone to mistakes, evident in the defeat to Taiwan. Regardless of who will play, solid technique, execution and near flawless game plan is required to win the point.

Women's doubles (Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei vs Birgit Michels-Johanna Golsizewski)
Birgit Michels and Johanna Golsizewski were outstanding in spirit during the Taiwan match. Endurance and peserverance are their key strengths, so Malaysia need to look elsewhere to crack their defence.

Their solid rotation-on-court strategy means that it is pointless to focus the assault on one player, and their smashes will just kill the game. Avoiding that situation is important to carve out a win here.

Mixed doubles (Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying vs Michael Fuchs-Birgit Michels)
The tensed game against Taiwan showed that Michael Fuchs-Birgit Michels have what it takes to deliver under immense pressure. Their height compliments their smashes, which will create speed, power and steep angles to break through anyone's defence.

Taking the initiative and not letting them have the momentum will be key here. Control of the match, shuttle and rallies will ensure that they will not sweep our shuttlers away

Women's singles (Tee Jing Yi vs Olga Konon)

Both players will be playing in their first match here, with Jing Yi having advantage in terms of world ranking.

Whoever who conquers their nerves first and stamp their mark will emerge victorious here.

Men's singles (Lee Chong Wei vs Dieter Domke)
German shuttler Dieter Domke will likely be deputising for the absent Marc Zwiebler, but this tie will likely be a one-sided affair favouring Malaysia.

World No 1 Lee Chong Wei will almost likely deliver a point here - barring a German miracle - but there should be no problems for the Malaysian in this tie.

Prediction: - Malaysia win 3-2.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297312</NewsId>
SC13: Germans ready to become villians

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/Holger200513_L.jpg</big_image>

Germany are not shy about making themselves the villians in the Sudirman Cup if it earns them a place in the quarter-finals.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Germany are not shy about making themselves the villians in the Sudirman Cup if it earns them a place in the quarter-finals.

Taiwan have already claimed the top spot in Group 1C with wins over Malaysia and Germany, meaning that only one more ticket to the quarter-finals is available - and only the winner can take it.

But Germany head coach Holger Hasse said his team is ready to go against the hosts at the Putra Indoor Stadium and claim a win.

"We will fight for the second place. We will win. I believe that we can.

"Malaysia is clearly very strong in the men's singles with World No 1 Lee Chong Wei, but I can see we have good chances in the other four categories.

"Overall, I predict a 3-2 victory to Germany," said Hasse.

Without key members Marc Zweibler (family reasons) and Juliane Schenk (illness) in his arsenal, Hasse will have to rely on deputies Dieter Domke and Karin Schnaase to hold the fort in the singles department.

But Hasse believes his team's fighting spirit - seen in the 5-0 defeat to Taiwan - will give them the strength to pull through.

"We lost, clearly, to a much better team. But my players fought a good fight, and I saw that we came close to taking it a couple times."

Germany will have to prepare to face a home crowd banking on them to fail. While on paper Malaysia are the favourites to progress, anything can happen in the court.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297285</NewsId>
SC13: Garudas declare war on Dragons

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/Rexy200513_L.jpg</big_image>

Indonesia are pumped up ahead of the Sudirman Cup clash with China, and have announced that they will beat the badminton giants 5-0.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Indonesia are pumped up ahead of the Sudirman Cup clash with China, and have announced that they will beat the badminton giants 5-0.

Group 1A of the mixed team championships has pitted China, Indonesia and India together.

With India losing 5-0 to China and 4-1 to Indonesia subsequently, the clash between eight-time winners China and 1989 winner Indonesia will decide on who will top the group for a more favourable position into the quarter-finals.

China's head coach Li Yongbo reportedly said that his team is confident of crushing Indonesia 5-0 to enter the quarter-finals with an unbeaten streak.

Undaunted, Indonesia's head coach and performance director Rexy Mainaky retaliated the comment by saying that Indonesia will also be out to gun down China 5-0.

"Of course, we will go out to beat China 5-0," said Rexy, which invited the whole press room to laugh and clap at the prediction.

"Although we are in the same group as China, we will not just aim to reach the quarter-finals. Our boys and girls will go out there to win."

But the former Malaysia doubles coach is tight-lipped on the possible lineup that Indonesia will put up against the defending champions China.

"We will talk amongst the coaches and decide on who will be the candidates for the match against China. Maybe there will be changes, maybe there won't.

"It is a secret," Rexy added with a cunning smile.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297233</NewsId>
SC13: Korea through, Taiwan top group

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/JiHyun200513_L.jpg</big_image>

Korea demolished Hong Kong 4-1 in Group 1B to secure their place in the Sudirman Cup quarter-finals.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Korea demolished Hong Kong 4-1 in Group 1B to secure their place in the Sudirman Cup quarter-finals.

They certainly did not disappoint, being the favourites to top their group at the Putra Indoor Stadium, but their first match here was anything but smooth-sailing.

Ko Sung-hyun and Kim Ha-na failed to give Korea a winning start after the World No 69 went down to Lee Chun Hei-Chau Hoi Wah 21-18,21-14 after 29 minutes of play.

But men's singles Lee Dong-keun returned the favour in the next tie, taking 39 minutes to pull an upset over World No 15 Wong Wing Ki 21-16, 21-15 to level the terms 1-1.

Kim Ki-jung and Kim Sa-rang turned the tables to give Korea the lead, registering a 21-14, 21-17 victory over Chan Yun Long-Ng Ka Long. Hong Kong are now on the brink of elimination after yesterday's 3-2 defeat to Thailand.

Yip Pui Yin faced an uphill task of saving Hong Kong's campaign, but the World No 26 was no match for Sung Ji-hyun. The World No 6 Korean started off a little slow, but was dominating the momentum in the second set to win 21-17, 21-14.

Women's doubles Jung Kyung-eun-Kim Ha-na made it 4-1 after 30 minutes with a 21-10, 21-15 win over Tse Ying Suet and Poon Lok Yan.

Hong Kong are out of contention after two defeats in Group 1B, while Korea will face Thailand on 21 May to decide who will come out as group winners.

Meanwhile, Taiwan were the first to become group leaders in this tournament after they crush Germany 5-0 in Group 1C.

Lu Ching Yao-Lai Chia Wen, Hsueh Hsuan Yi, Lee Sheng Mu-Tsai Chia Hsin, Tai Tzu Ying, and Cheng Wen Hsing-Hsieh Pei Chen all carded respective wins against the European champions, who struggled to break Taiwan's march to a clean sweep.

Michael Fuchs-Birgit Michels, Karin Schnaase and Michels-Johanna Golsizewski all came close to claiming a consolation point in the mixed doubles, women's singles and women's doubles respectively, but Taiwan was clearly superior as they secured the win and their second consecutive quarter-final appearance in the Sudirman Cup.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297206</NewsId>
Nafiizwan fails to make British cut

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Squash/Nafiizwan_180311_L.jpg</big_image>

Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan was unable to clear his qualifying hurdle to reach the British Open main draw after a 3-1 defeat to Jonathan Kemp.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen
KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan was unable to clear his qualifying hurdle to reach the British Open main draw after a 3-1 defeat to Jonathan Kemp.

27-year old Nafiizwan could only muster enough strength to claim the third game, as Englishman Kemp sealed the Malaysian's fate 11-7,11-3, 6-11, 11-6 in 45 minutes of play.

Nafiizwan's exit means that Ong Beng Hee is the only Malaysian in the men's main draw. The Penangite will face Australia's Cameron Pilley in the first round.

Meanwhile, Delia Arnold kept her chances of reaching the main draw alive after a 11-2, 11-1, 11-1 win over Laura Pomportes of France. The KL lass will face Austria's Birgit Coufal in her final qualifying match.

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Former Sudirman Cup champions Indonesia sent India packing in the group stages after securing a 4-1 win at the Putra Indoor Stadium.

India could only take a point via the men's singles tie, but that did nothing to change their fate as 1989 winners Indonesia romped in the remaining four ties.

With two defeats to their name, India are out of contention for a top-eight spot, while Indonesia will go up against China on 21 May with the top spot in the group at stake.

Men's doubles Angga Pratama-Rian Agung Saputra got the Indonesian party started by scoring a 21-13, 21-10 against D. Akshay-CP Jerry.

17-year old PV Sindhu also found herself on the losing end when Lindaweni Fanetri easily won 21-15, 21-10 in the women singles match to give Indonesia a 2-0 lead.

P. Kashyap pulled one back to boost his team confidence by winning 21-18, 21-14 against Dionysius Hayom Rumbaka, but it proved merely to delay their demise.

Excitement reached its highest levels in the women's doubles match, but Greysia Polii-Nitya Krishinda Maheswari basked in the limelight to send Indonesia through with a 21-19,22-20 victory over P. Ashwini-G. Pradnya.

Tontowi Ahmad-Liliyana Natsir wrapped up Indonesia's victory lap with a 21-13, 21-14 win against V. Arun-B. Aparna.

Meanwhile, Group 1D saw Japan sweep Singapore out of the competition 5-0.

Hiroyuki Endo-Kenichi Hayakawa took 28 minutes to beat Danny Bawa Chrisnanta-Terry Yeo Zhao Jiang 21-17, 21-18 in the men's doubles, followed by a Minatsu Mitani victory over Gu Juan (21-10, 21-19) in the women's singles.

Takuma Ueda was selected for the men's singles instead of Kenichi Tago, but Takuma did not disappoint after beating Derek Wong Zi Liang 21-18, 13-21, 21-15 to seal the win.

Japan's Misaki Matsutomo-Ayaka Takahashi made it 4-0 with a 21-9, 21-15 over Shinta Mulia Sari-Yao Lei, while Hirokatsu Hashimoto-Miyuki Maeda battled for 53 minutes to secure the 5-0 win after beating Danny-Vanessa Neo Yu Yan 16-21, 21-12, 21-19.

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Mixed doubles pair Chan Peng Soon and Goh Liu Ying have issued a rallying call ahead of Malaysia's crunch tie against Germany in the 2013 Sudirman Cup.

Regardless of the result between Taiwan and Germany, Malaysia must produce a solid win against the European team in Group 1C in order to qualify for the quarter-finals.

With only two spots per group, Peng Soon and Liu Ying insisted that the 3-2 defeat to Taiwan does not mean that all hope is lost.

"Although it is disappointing to lose, we still have a chance to make the quarter-finals. The fight is not over," said Peng Soon.

Liu Ying added: "We need to retain the team spirit and fight as a team when we face Germany."

World No 5 Peng Soon-Liu Ying produced a 25-23, 21-11 win over Lu Ching Yao-Lai Chia Wen to secure two precious points against Taiwan, which could go a long way in deciding which two teams will graduate into the top eight.

Women's singles exponent Sonia Cheah Su Ya was disheartened with her defeat to Tai Tzu Ying, but is ready to bounce back against the Germans if she is given another chance.

"I admit I cannot perform in the match (against Tzu Ying), everything was not working on the court.

"But I have seen my mistakes, and I am ready to bounce back and face Germany," said Sonia.

The women's singles will likely face Juliane Schenk, and Sonia is aware of the threat posed by the World No 4 shuttler.

"It will be difficult, but I am focused on recovering from this defeat and facing her (if I play) at 100 percent," Sonia added.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297182</NewsId>
SC13: Defeat not because of lack of training

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/KooTan190513_L.jpg</big_image>

National doubles coach Tan Kim Her has refuted claims that the defeat from the men's doubles in the Sudirman Cup was due to lack of training.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - National doubles coach Tan Kim Her has refuted claims that the defeat from the men's doubles in the Sudirman Cup was due to lack of training.

Malaysia's opening match against Taiwan in Group 1C took an ugly turn for the hosts after a 3-2 loss which left their quarter-final hopes hanging by a thread.

And many believe that the defeat was affected by Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong's defeat in the men's doubles category. The World No 3 pair failed to live up to their expectations in this tournament, losing 21-18, 21-18 to Lee Sheng Mu-Tsai Chia Hsin.

When asked whether the loss was due to Kien Keat missing several training sessions prior to the Sudirman Cup, Kim Her responded: "No, that is not true. It is not the case at all.

"The reason we (men's doubles) lost in that match is because they (Kien Keat and Boon Heong) lost focus. They had a good start, but they lost focus in the middle of the match which resulted in a defeat."

Kim Her further added that his coaching team will have a meeting to select the pair who will play in the all-important Germany tie.

If the performance against Taiwan is to be taken into account, Kim Her could select Malaysia Open GP Gold champions Goh V Shem-Lim Khim Wah to shoulder the responsibility, or Hoon Thien How-Tan Wee Kiong.

For Kien Keat-Boon Heong, they are not thinking too much about who will play.

"It will come down to the coach's decision, and we will accept his choice," said Kien Keat, to which Boon Heong added: "Coach will decide; whoever is more confident will get into the court."
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>297180</NewsId>
SC13: Accept it and move on - Chong Wei

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/LCW190113_L.jpg</big_image>

Lee Chong Wei said Malaysia must accept their defeat to Taiwan in the 2013 Sudirman Cup and move on to salvage the situation.
<fullArticle>
By: Kevin George
KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - Lee Chong Wei said Malaysia must accept their defeat to Taiwan in the 2013 Sudirman Cup and move on to salvage the situation.

The World No 1 gave Malaysia one point in the men's singles but Taiwan dominated the men's doubles, women's singles and women's doubles to upset the hosts 3-2 in Group 1C.

Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying delivered Malaysia's second point in the tie.

Chong Wei said: "The result so far is unexpected but we have to accept the defeat. I believe we can bounce back."

The win, Negeri Sembilan's first in 17 matches, was a much awaited occasion by the fans.

"I hope last night's win will inspire the team to achieve more wins and improve on their position in the league table," said Ridzuan who replaced former coach Divaldo Elves who was rested after the team's poor results throughout the Super League, four days before the match.

However, the win over Armed Forces who are second in the Super League table, failed to lift Negeri Sembilan from its current spot (last in the table).

He said Negeri Sembilan who five more matches to complete their league fixture, can improve its position, if the team continues its winning ways.

“Perlumbaan tadi cukup sukar buat saya.

</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>-1</subcategoryid><subcategoryname />D5 Sports

<NewsId>296991</NewsId>
SC13: Shellshocked!

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Badminton/VivianKheWei190513_L.jpg</big_image>

Sudirman Cup hosts Malaysia witnessed its campaign in the mixed team championships turn into a nightmare after a 3-2 defeat to Taiwan in their first group match.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - 2013 Sudirman Cup hosts Malaysia witnessed its campaign in the badminton mixed team championships turn into a nightmare right off the bat after a defeat to Taiwan.

As all eyes were fixed on the Court 2 which featured the Group 1C match, jaws dropped as Malaysia found themselves 2-0 down before eventually suffering a 3-2 defeat to the visitors at the Putra Indoor Stadium.

Victory was expected - instead the small crowd in the stadium was treated to a sight of a Malaysian side being hammered in the early stages of the tie.

Doubles pair Koo Kien Keat-Tan Boon Heong were entrusted to draw first blood, instead found themselves on the losing end after conceding rhythm, pace, and control of the 31-minute match to lose 21-18, 21-18 to Lee Sheng Mu-Tsai Chia Hsin.

Buoyed by the positive start, Taiwan continued to pile on the misery on hosts Malaysia - Tai Tzu Ying making it 2-0 for Taiwan whilst avenging her Axiata Cup defeat to Sonia Cheah Su Ya with a 21-17, 21-13 against the Malaysian.

Malaysia found themselves at the precipice of an embarrassing defeat, no mistakes can be tolerated in the remaining three matches.

World No 1 Lee Chong Wei pulled one back for the hosts after sweeping Yang Chih Hsun aside 21-8, 21-13 in just 24 minutes of play.

The mission has only begun as all the chips are now piled on the women's and mixed doubles.

But defeat was inevitable after a poor start from Vivian Hoo Kah Mun-Woon Khe Wei saw them plunge to a first-set deficit against Cheng Wen Hsing-Hsieh Pei Chen.

Vivian-Khe Wei did their very best to attempt and salvage the situation, but despite their best efforts, Malaysia's hopes of beating Taiwan fizzled out after Wen Hsing-Pei Chen secured Taiwan's win with a 21-17, 21-19 scoreline in the women's doubles match.

Chan Peng Soon-Goh Liu Ying came out to minimise the damage, registering a 25-23, 21-11 win over Lu Ching Yao-Lai Chia Wen in the mixed doubles match.

Malaysia will certainly hope for Germany to pull an upset against Taiwan on 20 May to brighten their chances of making the quarter-finals as group leaders.

As it stands, Taiwan will certainly take the top spot in Group 1C if they take down Germany, which leaves Malaysia with a mission to beat the European team in order to make the cut into the top eight.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>296946</NewsId>
SC13: China, Denmark off to a winning start

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/ChenLong190513_L.jpg</big_image>

China and Denmark opened their 2013 Sudirman Cup campaign with victories in their respective group matches at the Putra Indoor Stadium.
<fullArticle>
By: Yong Ai Wen and Kevin George

KUALA LUMPUR, (D5) - China and Denmark opened their 2013 Sudirman Cup campaign with victories in their respective group matches at the Putra Indoor Stadium.

Defending champions China whitewashed India 5-0, conceding only one set in their Group 1A match, while Denmark dropped one point for a 4-1 win over Singapore in Group 1D.

China's mixed pair Zhang Nan-Zhao Yunlei stormed to a quick win, chalking up the first point with a 21-10, 21-13 score against K. Tarun-P. Ashwini.

2013 All-England champion Chen Long made it 2-0 in quick succession, beating P. Kashyap 21-11, 21-9 in 33 minutes in his first match here.

Eight-time winners China opted for Liu Xiaolong-Qiu Zihan instead of Cai Yun-Fu Haifeng in the men's doubles tie, as opposed to their best shuttlers who filled up the other categories.

And World No 6 pair Xiaolong-Zihan almost became the first in the Chinese squad to concede a set, but their peseverance gave them the crucial first-set win en route to a 25-23,-21-18 victory to seal China's win.

Turns out it China's first set conceded came in the women's singles event, after Wang Yihan struggled in the early proceedings against PV Sindhu to drop the first set.

The current World No 3 Yihan was unable to contain the attacking momentum of Sindhu, but her patience and consistency from the second set onwards was enough to seal a 19-21, 21-16, 21-14 victory to make it 4-0.

Meanwhile in Group 1D's first match, Denmark stomped all over Singapore to win the tie with two ties left in reserve. Singapore managed to secure a point through the women's singles, but that was all they could muster as Denmark sealed a convincing 4-1 victory.

The Danes were very tactical throughout, especially the mixed doubles pair of Joachim Fischer Nielsen-Christinna Pedersen who saw off Danny Bawa Chrisnanta-Vanessa Neo Yu Yan 21-11,21-17 with relative ease.

Men's singles shuttler Jan O Jorgensen took a slight step back afterwards, losing the first set to Derek Wong Zi Liang, but Jorgensen recovered to pull off a 17-21, 21-9, 21-13 win for the team.

Danish doubles Mathias Boe-Carsten Mogensen delivered the killing blow with a 21-10, 21-12 win over Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Terry Yeo Zhao Jiang, as the Singaporean pair was unable to stop their relentless smashes.

Gu Juan mustered a small consolation for Singapore after beating Line Kjaersfeldt 21-16, 21-12 in the women's singles, but Christinna Pedersen-Kamilla Rytter Juhl ensured that Denmark will sign off with a strong 4-1 result after beating Vanessa Neo Yu Yan-Yao Lei 21-19, 21-18.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>D5 Sports

<NewsId>296923</NewsId>
David on the hunt in Hull

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/Recquet Sport/Squash/Nicol300313_L.jpg</big_image>

Nicol David has prefaced her bid for a fifth British Open title by reassuring her compatriots that she is not on the wane.
<fullArticle>
HULL, (AFP) - Nicol David has prefaced her bid for a fifth British Open title next week by reassuring her compatriots that the most successful career of the women's professional era is not on the wane.

That has been the response of some Malaysian commentators after Nicol's two defeats on home soil this year, creating yet again an anxious backdrop to her attempt at a major title.

Nicol also suffered two defeats in the build-up to last year's World Open, bringing similar speculation about decline and fall.

Instead it was followed by some of her best ever performances as she extended her record of world titles to seven.

Now, despite allegations that she is in her "twilight" in her 30th year, Nicol is confident of another positive response at the world's oldest tournament begins in Hull, northern England, on Monday.

Asked if people didn't always understand her situation, Nicol did not answer directly, but gave a fair description of what it is they may not understand.

"There are occasions where there is a loss. These things happen," she said.

"It's just important to take these losses and make them work for me. I learn a lot from them and use them for what is coming. I put more work into certain things I need to work on.

"If I don't pay attention to what happens it will keep coming back. So I have looked at it and taken what I learned into other tournaments and have won -- and now I will do the same.

"Last year it was a long season and I had one or two losses. But I worked on it and put everything together," Nicol continued. "These things happen. It all worked out.

"This time I've been coming into a busy new year, and have had two losses. Now at last though I have had a bit more time, to build and get my training in, to prepare for this."

Nevertheless the director general of Malaysia's National Sports Council, Datuk Seri Zolkples Embong, has suggested that, in David's 30th year, her training programme and tournament schedule should be carefully re-evaluated.

Her coach Liz Irving responds by emphasising that trying to peak for major events has been an important part of Nicol's plans for a long time.

Irving revealed that Nicol's decision not to play the Asian Championships at the start of this month in Islamabad, which cited security concerns, was made with an awareness of the value of rest and preparation for the British Open.

"We monitor everything to the next step, to ensure that she has a good preparation time," Irving said.

"Sometimes things go a bit wrong, but that is part of the journey. It will show that she realises what to do to put things right.

" She's really on track. She's been training really well. We periodise her training well. The formula works. She is good with rest and recovery."

Nicol's closest rival is Laura Massaro, the second-seeded Englishwoman, who was the player who beat her twice in Malaysia this year.

Other contenders should be Raneem El Weleily, the third-seeded Egyptian, and her compatriot Nour El Sherbini, who contested last year's final at the age of 16.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>102</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Squash</subcategoryname>AFP

<NewsId>296821</NewsId>
SC13: BAM aims to be gracious hosts

<big_image>http://sports.mylaunchpad.com.my/portals/0/BAM_230111_L.jpg</big_image>

BAM has given the assurance that it will be a top host of the 13th edition of the Sudirman Cup which kicks off at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil.
<fullArticle>
KUALA LUMPUR, (Bernama) - The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has given the assurance that it will be a top host of the 13th edition of the Sudirman Cup which kicks off at the Putra Stadium in Bukit Jalil here tomorrrow.

BAM general manager Kenny Goh said they would go all out to ensure the participating teams "feel at home".

Approached by Bernama after the team managers meeting here today, he said it was "all systems go" for the prestigious tournament.

He also urged Malaysians to come out in full force to support the national squad.

Only 12 of the teams 30 overall will feature in the main event whereas the rest will have to compete for sole berths from division one and two to join the 12.

Malaysia are likely to have an easy path to the quarterfinals after having been drawn in Group C together with Germany and Taiwan.

Malaysia open their campaign against Taiwan tomorrow before meeting Germany on Tuesday.

The national squad's best performance in the tournament thus far is reaching the semifinals at the 2009 edition on Guangzhou, China.
</fullArticle>
<subcategoryid>75</subcategoryid><subcategoryname>Badminton</subcategoryname>Bernama
