KUALA LUMPUR, (D5 Sports) - Malaysia's only hope in the Macau Open Grand Prix women singles event was dashed after national shuttler Wong Mew Choo was sent packing on Thursday.

The Perak lass failed to clinch the much needed points in the decider, bowing out to Taipei's Cheng Shao Chieh 21-14, 9-21, 24-26 after 56 minutes.

Meanwhile, the men singles event saw Lee Chong Wei emerging as the only Malaysian left in the fray, after compatriots Liew Daren and Wong Choong Hann was bundled out by their respective opponents.

World No 1 player Chong Wei registered an easy 21-12, 21-19 win over Thailand's Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk to advance into the quarter-finals to face Korea's Shon Wan-ho.

The men's doubles event saw all four Malaysian pairs remaining suffering respective defeats.

But the women's doubles pair of Chin Eei Hui-Wong Pei Tty and Ng Hui Ern-Ng Hui Lin kept the flag flying after regestering wins over Indonesia's Anneke Feinya Agustine-Annisa Wahyuni (21-10, 23-21) and Thailand's Savitree Amitrapai-Vacharaporn Munkit (14-21, 21-14, 21-17) respectively.

Second seed Eei Hui-Pei Tty will face fifth seed Indonesian pair Meiliana Jauhari-Greysia Polii, while the Hui Ern-Hui Lin will have an uphill task against third seed Hsing Cheng Wen-Chin Chien Yu of Taipei.
