Former Lyon right-back Francois Clerc was on Thursday ordered to pay 130,000 euros in damages to Marseille after failing to honour a pre-contract agreement with the club.
The punishment was handed down at the court of appeal in Aix-en-Provence after a lengthy case that began in October 2006.
Clerc agreed to join the Mediterranean side in February 2006 before changing his mind and pulling out of the deal to remain at Lyon, with whom he signed a four-year contract worth twice what he had been offered by Marseille.
The 27-year-old defender left Lyon this summer at the end of his contract and has yet to sign for a new club.
